This painting origins stem from an attempt to combine the seven colours that make up the spectrum of light by which the created world is revealed through our visionary perception and the seven days creation account in Genesis.
I wanted to combine the revelations of science and the poetical revelations in Genesis in an attempt to convey how science and poetry merge in pre history.
The centre of the painting represents the first day of creation, the creation of light and the separation of light and dark. It can also be viewed as the current scientific theory of the big bang with galaxies projecting from the centre.
The rings that unfold from the centre correspond loosely to the seven days of creation; the bringing together of the waters into one place and the appearance of land etc.
Seven shafts of white light dissect the composition and emit from the centre of the painting each shaft when pushing through the circle depicting land brings forth a flower coloured with each of the different colours of the spectrum.
The painting is meant to convey how creation is an on going process. Life is like a circle, getting stronger with each rotation and the universe and our souls are still being perfected, unfolding like a flower.
